Get To Know Your Filters

We strive to not only keep our customer’s vehicles in working condition and provide expert services and repairs, but we also strive to keep our customers informed about their vehicles. Let’s talk about filters. How many are there? What are they? What do they do? When do I need to change them? All these questions and more will be answered in this article.

Cabin Filter

Your cabin filter is not made-up, and we promise it is real. This little filter keeps the air you breathe clean and helps keep the inside of your vehicle smelling fresh. This filter gets clogged more frequently. We recommend replacing this filter every 15,000 miles or every other oil change. Keeping your lungs happy is important to your health and safety. We don’t want you to breathe in all the dirt on the roads.

Air Filter

The air filter acts just like the cabin filter but for your engine. Every time we drive, our air filter collects dirt, bugs, water, and other contaminants that could cause harm to the engine. Once the filter is filled, it can restrict the airflow to your engine, reducing engine performance. A dirty air filter causes some check engine lights. The air filter should be replaced every 15,000 to 30,000 miles. So once a year. You can check this filter by holding it up to the light. If you can’t see any light, it is time to replace it.

Oil Filter

The oil filter is the most frequently replaced. It is recommended to replace this filter with every oil change every 4,000 to 7,000 miles. Without clean oil, vehicle parts will overheat and wear out quicker than they should. The oil’s job is to cool, lubricate and clean the engine’s moving parts. The more contaminated with debris it becomes, the less effective it is at removing heat. Frequently cleaning the filter will help keep the oil clean.

Fuel Filter

The same goes for the fuel filter. Its job is to remove contaminants from the gas flowing from your gas tank to the engine. If you did not already know, the fuel we get from the gas station is not clean. It is filled with dirt, grime, and water. This filter is not easy to replace, so professionals should do it. We recommend that you replace the fuel filter every 30,000 miles/
