Generally, the muffler will go bad between 40,000 miles and 80,000 miles. When this happens, you can bring your SUV, car, or truck to our auto service shop so we can remove the old muffler and replace it with a new one. The muffler plays a crucial role in your vehicle’s exhaust system. It muffles the excessive noise that the exhaust system makes and also helps to route the engine’s exhaust out of the tailpipe. You will have engine performance problems if the exhaust is not removed.
Excess Noise
One of the first problems that a bad muffler will cause is a ton of noise while your engine is running. Unfortunately, your automobile will sound like a race car and may break noise abatement laws. If this happens, you could be pulled over and issued a moving violation or fix-it ticket. Usually, the exhaust system will be too loud if the muffler has a hole in it or is damaged.
Rust/Corrosion
A damaged muffler is also a rusted or corroded muffler. The corrosion can eat through the muffler and cause holes that will release the exhaust system noise. The corrosion can also spread to other parts of the exhaust system. If you take a look at your muffler and see that it is corroded, bring your automobile to our shop as soon as possible so we can replace the muffler with a new one.
Water Leaks
When a muffler gets too old, it can start to leak water. Naturally, this water can corrode the muffler. Condensation on a muffler is normal. Water leaking from a muffler is not. As such, you never want to see water dripping out of the muffler. If you do, again, bring your vehicle to our shop so we can replace the muffler with a new one to resolve the problem.
Overheating
Finally, a muffler with a hole in it can make your vehicle overheat. You will already know that the muffler has a hole in it because your automobile will be too loud. In addition, if the exhaust that leaks out of the muffler makes its way into the engine, it will increase the engine’s temperature. In severe cases, your SUV, car, or truck may overheat whenever you drive it.
